Irren stood at the shore, just beyond the edge of the water, looking out at the horizon. He wondered what lay beyond the sea-something had to be on the other side. If he left the Wing, perhaps he could find a ship that could carry him and Jett across. He didn't want the Wing hunting him down and dragging him back, nor did he really wish to join up with the Order. He'd rather just be on his own.
Jett, who had been lying besides Irren on the sand, lifted his head up suddenly, his ears flicking around on his head. "Someone's coming," He said, as both looked around for the newcomer.

Jenna sighed as she sat on Kanna's back, letting the felid move where she will. The Castle had become suddenly stuffy, and Jenna had needed to get out. She hadn't been able to stand being cooped up inside for much longer, and had proposed to Kanna that they get out of the castle. It had been Kanna's idea though, that Jenna ride on her back since she hadn't in so long.
"You make it seem as if this is a bad thing," Kanna purred happily as she moved slowly towards the sea. Jenna smiled and stroked her bonds soft fur as she let Kanna do the walking. Kanna could walk, or run, a lot longer than Jenna ever could, and she knew it. And the Caliat Sea was too far from the castle for Jenna to be able to comfortably walk.
Jenna smelled the Sea before she saw it. The soft tang of salt filled the air, and she felt herself relaxing. She had always loved water, and the Sea was one of her favorite places to come when she wasn't busy at the Castle.
"Jen..." Kanna's warning rumble alerted Jenna to another presence. She slid off her felid's back, tilting her head as she let her power shoot out around her. She sensed Irren before she saw him, and blinked once.
"We are not alone," She told her bond mate, and showed her a mental picture of Irren when she finally saw him. She moved closer, until she was within earshot of the elf-hybrid, and lifted a hand. "Hello, Irren Warde," She greeted.

Irren lifted a hand in greeting, mimicking the felid rider's action as she walked down the beach towards him. "Jenna, Kanna" He said. There was no smile or grimace on his face and his voice held little emotion, as always. The only time he really showed emotion was when he was alone with Jett.
Jett looked at the pair walking towards them, and gave a short nod. "Kanna," He greeted the felid, then looked to her rider "Jenna."
"So what brings you both to the shore today?" Irren asked, raising an eyebrow.

Jenna watched Irren's hand lift in the same greeting she sent him, and heard his voice as he spoke hers and Kanna's names. "Hello, Jett," She said to the griffin, nodding in his direction. Kanna only nodded as she lay down in the sand, her head on her front paws to soak up the warmth of the sun. Jenna looked back to Irren, noting he wasn't smiling, and didn't make a fool of herself and didn't try to make him smile. She knew he wouldn't, or it would be a fake smile if he did. "Just needed to get out of the castle," She told him with a shrug.
"What about you?" She asked curiously. "How come you're out here as well?"

Irren was grateful she didn't try to get him to crack a smile; he supposed she knew better by now. He only smiled when he was alone; Jett was probably the only who'd seen him with anything better than a neutral face in quite sometime. The felid rider probably had the best chance Jenna, unlike most of the Wing, he could stand. She was manipulative, yes, but at least she was kind when she was manipulating something or someone.
He shrugged at her question, not about to give her his real reason for being out there. He didn't want her to get any idea that he was planning to leave. The fact that she was a wizard, coupled with her power, meant she could do him serious damage, if she wanted to "Just...need some time away too, I guess," He told her.

Jenna watched Irren for a long moment after he said he just needed to get away. He was lying, she was almost sure of it, but she couldn't prove it. She turned and looked out at the water, deciding to just change the subject. "It's a nice day, is it not?" She said. "The water is feisty. It would be easy to make it swallow someone." She didn't look at him as she said this, just stared out at the Sea as she made the water swirl like a whirlpool close to the shore. Between her wizard powers, and her elemental powers, it was deadly, but mostly just because it was so close to a large set of rocks typically hidden under the water.

Irren didn't know if the selector knew that he was lying or not, but she seemed content to just forget it and move on to small talk about the weather. He looked out at the sea as Jenna churned the water up. "Impressive as always, Jenna," He said, a hint of genuine emotion in his voice just then. As wary as he was of her powers, it didn't mean he didn't apprieciate what she was capable of. In fact, his wariness only increased his awe of the power a wizard, and an elemental, could possess.

"Hmm..." Jenna agreed without really saying anything. She glanced at him, he did seem genuinely awed. Then again, it was a sight to see. She let the power she used dwindle and slip away, and watched as the whirlpool slowly started to vanish. Even though she was half elemental, it tired her to use her powers for too long and she didn't feel like wearing herself out.
"Too bad," She said. "That I am weaker than most. Had I been full elemental or wizard, I would have been able to make a much larger, much stronger whirlpool." She didn't really care that she was a halfling, though she always felt like she never fit in anywhere. She turned to Irren, smiled without warmth. "Isn't it a shame, being a halfling?" She asked. "We don't fit in, not anywhere. People always look down on us as if we are trash..."

Irren watched as the whirlpool faded, the water returning to its usual calm. He listened to her words, complaining that she wasn't stronger than she was, because of the fact that she was an elemental. He looked at her through the corner of his eye, at her cold smile. "I think you spend too much time listening to fools," He said, his voice restored to its usual stoic tone. He'd grown up on the border between Ethaia and Myriata, where hybrids were much more common and much more accepted than they were in the interior of both countries. There were still those who'd looked down on him and his sister, but his father had always told them that they were fools.
