Jenna bent down over the small fence that separated her from the bond creatures. Most were so small, so delicate that it made her smile. She reached in, wiggling her fingers at one of the small dragonettes as it crooned sadly, wanting someone to play with. "Shh now," She cooed to the baby dragon as it waddled over and she scratched under it's chin. "Shh, baby, its okay," She told it. It crooned again, this time a happy noise as its eyes closed with bliss. When the baby dragon was happy enough, it moved off to find another of the bond creatures to play with, tripping and falling over a couple of times as it tried to get used to having its wings folded against it, as a splint held one to its side after it ripped the wing membrane the week before while playing.
"Hello?" A voice stopped Jenna from watching the baby creatures and she stood straight and glanced back towards the entrance, a look of annoyance on her face as she forgot who the name belonged to. It always annoyed her when she couldn't remember. "Jenna? It's Aisling. I want to be bonded."
Aisling stood just inside the entrance of the Selection Chamber, her long silvery white hair glittering in the faint light as she looked around for the Wing's Selector. She shuffled her feet impatiently as she looked around. Unknown to her, her own sister, Fiona, was in the Keep's selection chamber with Mirai just then, getting her own bond.
Aisling wanted to prove herself. She wanted to prove to everyone that she wasn't just 'Fiona's Twin'. That she was her own person, a stronger person than Fiona was.
A pang of heartache touched Aisling, though she didn't show it. She missed her sister. She knew it was her fault Fiona had left, though she couldn't help but to blame Fiona either. When Jenna stepped out into the entrance hall, Aisling forgot her sister and smiled, a bit nervously, as Jenna smiled kindly and moved over to the girl.
"Aisling McLoughlin," Jenna greeted, holding out her hands. Aisling slipped her pale hands into Jenna's tanned ones, the contrast shocking.
"Jenna," Aisling said with a wavering little smile.
"Just be calm, dear," Jenna soothed the girl. She knew what it was like. Hoping, praying to be chosen by one of the bond creatures. Jenna's glittering amethyst eyes closed as she let herself slip into the trance that she loved.
She saw Aisling then, surrounded by glittering crystals of fire that snapped and sizzled around the girl. She pushed her mind farther, almost straining. Soon, a small creature looked at Jenna through the sizzling crystals of fire, and she felt herself smiling. It was a perfect fit, she thought.
Snapping herself from the trance, she slid her hands away from Aisling's. "Wait here," Jenna said softly. Aisling only nodded as she watched the Selector rush off towards the nursery, her ebony hair flying out behind her like a wave.
A few moments later, Jenna came back, a small, white wolf-like candid held close. "Touch him," Jenna said softly as Aisling stared in wonder at the small creature. "Form your bond, and give him a name."
Jenna stretched her arms out, and the sleeping pup in her arms awoke and tilted its head, its golden eyes looking at Aisling. Its tongue lolled from it's mouth, and its bushy white tail wagged gleefully. Aisling reached out, felt the connection as her fingers brushed over his soft fur, felt her mind opening to the candid as she took him in her arms and held him close.
"Soran," She whispered the candids name as tears sprang in her eyes and slid into the wolfs fur. Soran tilted his head and looked up at his bond mate, his life mate, and licked her cheeks clean of the tears that slid from her eyes.
Don't cry, The soft voice rang inside Aisling's head and she let out a sob of pure joy as she pressed her face into the candid's soft white fur. I love you! Please don't cry! Will you feed me? Soran licked Aisling's cheek again and whined.
"Of course I'll feed you," Aisling said, choking slightly as she hugged the little wolf. He yipped happily. He was about the size of a half-grown wolf, and was rather heavy, but Aisling didn't want to put him down. She didn't care, she was so happy. "Thank you, Jenna," Aisling said, smiling, before she put Soran on the ground. He yipped happily and Aisling ran after him as he darted out of the Selection Chamber, laughing.
Jenna smiled and stroked a hand over Kanna's fur as the big cat walked over and bumped her head against Jenna's waist. "I love seeing you give someone happiness," Kanna purred. "It reminds me of when we were bonded." Jenna smiled and hugged her felid.
"I love it too," She told her bond mate. "It's so beautiful."
